Affirming Community Relationships
The Abenaki community is by common origin culturally inclusive, however the colonization process and modern-day laws have imposed state and national boundaries that we must acknowledge under the current Western structures of power.
The Abenaki were the first stewards of the land now known as Vermont, dating back 12,000 years. They continue to provide valuable resources to the community, supporting conservation and land management projects throughout New England and enriching the region’s shared cultural heritage.
